The GIMP sucks only if you don't know how to use it. I've been using the GIMP for about 4 years now. It takes a little bit to learn it well, what it does and what it does not do, but after you work with it a while, you discover how far it really goes.
Just give it a chance :)

I've already done many drawings in it and used it just fine. When it comes to simple drawings though, and just the user friendliness and doing a simple task like moving pixels over... it's a pain in the rear!!

It sucks because it's a chore to use.

GIMP doesn't suck. I can name suckier programs. And if it's quick, simple drawings done, I'd use MS Paint instead.

Well, can you name better programs, then? I agree that Photoshop is more viable for photoediting, but since I don't dabble with photos, GIMP is more suitable and cheaper option to me. The only other program I can name aside from the ones I've used before is Paint.net. It's not as powerful as Photoshop or GIMP, and I've had trouble getting used to it because I've used GIMP for so long.

What's your problem with GIMP exactly? Moving pixels? Yes, I agree that it's a bit silly to cut and paste to move the area you've selected. Zoom in and at most the pen tool should fix all the actual drawing problems that I can imagine.

MS-Paint is awesome for anything.

The Gimp is great for colouring but the layout is just stupidly inconvenient.

I like mtPaint for Linux.

And I agree that GIMP comes with too many windows.

I don't have Linux, I don't have mtPaint. No opinions about that.

If it weren't for the many windows and dumb layout, I would use The Gimp more. Fact.

Also, the crappiness of my drawing above was due to the fact that I frigged up my cursor settings in Linux itself, so I gave false blame.

Oh well.
